About a week and a half ago, Jack's teacher informed us that he had been wearing pull-ups (that did not belong to him) and going potty on his own at school. This was definitely news to us, as Jack absolutely refused to go in the potty at home. Of course, after learning this, we tried our hardest to get him to go at home as well, but alas, he would get out of the car each day, strip down and ask for his diaper to be put on.
After a few days of this (and some moaning and groaning to my girlfriends about it), we decided enough was enough, and I informed Jack that the half full box of diapers we had was the LAST box of diapers we would be buying, and that we needed them for night night time, so he was going to have to wear undies from here on out and go in the potty.
We began putting him in underwear for school so he'd be in pull-ups no more, and on Thursday (yes, Thanksgiving Day, when we'd all be busy and scurrying around) we put underwear on him and that was that. He went potty on his own all day long without a single accident. He did the same thing on Friday, and then again on Saturday and again on Sunday, with a lone accident Sunday morning.
As far as we're concerned, this kid is day trained!
And I could not be more excited or happy for him. We have never pushed him to do this sooner than he was ready, but have gently encouraged him, asked him and talked to him about for a while now, and he just wasn't ever ready. Because he is so very strong willed, I thought for sure he'd be the only kindergartner still in diapers, and that eventually, I'd have to buy him adult diapers and pin them on the sides or something. ;) But as usual, my boy never ceases to amaze me, and made the choice to start doing this at school, and now, has chosen to be a big boy at home, too.
Obviously, there's still some work to do in this department, as well as making the jump to night training, but I am so pleased with and proud of him!
Potty trained by his 3rd birthday!
